depends on what's being translated, the ideas get through quite well even though the text's nuance suffers, that's why translators use notes and commentaries. translation's hard and can produce bad results if done badly (a problem with some philosophers), but generally translations aren't that bad.
especially considering the role that Brits and Americans have in contemporary philosophy.
