that's all just subject to the status quo, they might get crucified more for their support if this keeps up into the 2018-2020 elections. and the real problem is regional differences. its a lot easier for someone in CA to break ranks than it is for someone in NC. that's going to make for some fun situations come the 2018 cycle IMO, it already happened in 2016 with people like McCain and Ryan when he was still in "i have to work with HRC" mode.
Yes they were saying that prior to the 2016 elections, many put their feet in the cold water if not jumped ship, most just ran damage control, more than just McCain and Ryan, plenty of local races. Then Trump's victory gave them surprise downstream bonus wins. They'll flee the instant an actual smoking gun appears knowing it would be suicide to stick around, but they're just stuck in the nervous position of being uncertain about the future while knowing if they stabbed Trump in the back today, they'd get ripped to pieces and the voters would bake their bones into bread.
The polls paint a completely different picture than the media, and the politicians read the polls instead of the headlines. They see that 96% of Trump voters are still true compared to 85% of Hillary voters, and they see Trump's approval ratings have plateaued and stabilize whereas the democrats have been plunging rapidly post-election. All these hysteria cycles haven't found their mark yet, but they've been damaging the opposition. If one blow gets past the armor it might be a different story, but for now, the GOP is Trump's bitch
