As a proud legal gun owner and supporter of the 2nd amendment, yeah man you're right. Let's not change anything on the gun end but let's worry more about women's bodies and what they do with them. Forget the kids in school getting their brains blown out in classrooms in mass shootings that's irrelevant amiright?
Abortion appears nowhere in the Constitution. What does appear in the Constitution is called the 10th Amendment, which outlines that any rights not contained within the Constitution fall to the States or the People.
Thus, abortion is not a Federal issue. The States have the right to legislate it or not, as they see fit. Some States will legalize abortion right up until the time of birth, others will ban it for anything and everything other than medical necessity.
Everyone in the US legally has a right to travel between States without any need for reason be given, unless Due Process has been followed to deprive them of that Right. Thus, anyone who lives in a State with Abortion Laws they disagree with can simply travel to another State that allows it.
Further, if as fender says, the majority of adults in all States approve of abortion, then it should be quite easy to vote in Pro-Abortion candidates, vote out anti-abortion candidates, and enshrine into each State's Constitution the Right to an abortion, or at the very least pass it into Statute.
Roe v Wade and Planned Parenthood v Casey were not about abortion. They were about a physician's right to perform medical procedures without oversight. This is not a right they have, anywhere. Just ask any chronic pain patient what kind of oversight the government exercises.
It's great you claim to support the Second Amendment. That has nothing whatsoever to do with the Federal Government usurping the Rights of the States. And I sincerely hope for you that you live in one of the 16 States that explicitly allow abortion. For all that I do not support the killing of babies, I'm not here to dictate what the people of other States do with their kids.
If you don't like the law in Texas, or Arizona, or wherever? Move! If "the majority" doesn't like it? Then elect candidates that share your values.
