the only real worthwhile metric for tracking homelessness is to track crime against the non-homeless. you cant stop homelessness, you cant stop intra-homeless crime. all you can do is contain it while providing a way out for the rare person willing and able to escape it. elsewise a real plan to combat it would make the green new deal look fiscally conservative.

We can sure as hell make policy adjustments to reduce homelessness domestically. Sad that a first world nation is unable to shelter all its own people.

Some easy changes HUD, States and Local municipalities could do tomorrow. Allow THOW and ADU as year round primary residence in all US jurisdictions. Streamline and reduce costs of permitting process and inspections. Allow home owner full bandwidth to work on their house without requiring license worker nonsense. Reduce mandatory setbacks. Open up vacant lots for developer proposals. Reduce mandatory minimums in builds. Update outdated building codes to encompass proven living arrangements. Just a few.

The THOW and ADU pushback over the last two decades really shows that those in power rather 'save' the homeless than allow an environment where most would lift themselves out of poverty.

Used to live in a THOW so know all about how 'legal' they are. And cities going out of there way to eject them. Good news is the ICC is making a pish for them now which should make it legal all across US except for white gated community pale pasty privlaged areas.

The population of the us is rising less than 0.25% per year, you will be lucky to keep up with retirement.

Yeah, but the status quo is being filled by migrants. Migrants who'll take 2-3 generations to get with the "civilized" program.
Which will never happen, because continuing batches of migrants, will bring down the average... every generation.

If the migrants primary desire was to assimilate, we might avoid this decline.
But that's not what's happening. They don't want to assimilate.

Sure, locale is important, but equally so is the desire of those residing there to... BE civilized.

What does it mean to be "civilized" and what does it mean to "assimilate" in your view?

Migrants are people who come here legally.
Illegal invaders are not migrants.

So if Mexican immigrants burned down your home with BLM protestors, would you consider them assimilated?

I'm asking for specific criteria. Are people in "Little Italy" assimilated? What about "China Town?" How do you account for regional cultural differences i.e. the insufferable people of Boston vs. Mormons in Salt Lake City? What are the characteristics that make someone, "American?" I'm of the opinion that as long as you believe in the Constitution and think America is the best, you're assimilated.
