This is where a supposed civil libertarian tries to argue why the authoritarian president he supported for 4 years was justified in doing everything he could in stealing an election he obviously lost.
It's why the libertarian party tweets about how McCarthy wasn't tough enough on the communists. And it's why any rational person who believes in the American founding has to root every single on of you people out. Because we're America, we're a democracy.
Trump didn't seize control of a presidential palace and surround himself with loyal gunmen and declare himself emperor. He didn't dissolve parliament as absolute monarch. He didn't call on the military to occupy DC. What actions did Trump take to
steal the election? A civil libertarian isn't going to argue that someone should be imprisoned for attempting to exhaust their legal remedies, their constitutionally ambiguous powers or other maneuvers, even if they are in vain or frivolous. But for an authoritarian, imprisoning people for dissent and opposition isn't a bug, its a feature.
Its not a hard point to get across. Trump tweeted and complained and bloviated. But he didn't steal an election, he took no action to compromise our republic. The democrats, on the other hand, have been wantonly abusing their powers and setting every new precedent to destroy the fabric of our civil society. Trump mocked a journalist, Biden sent storm troopers in the middle of the night to raid one. Trump criticized his predecessor, Biden sent FBI agents to raid his home. Trump disagreed with liberal economists, Biden sent FBI agents to arrest conservative economists. Trump called Hillary a crook, the democrats and Biden are going to spend an entire decade weaponizing the FBI to try to find dirt on Trump. Its not a hard distinction to make
If the democrat's response to half the country embracing anti-establishment conservative populism is to try to lock up opposition politicians and protesters and pundits, we're not going to have a united states of america much longer.
