I understand the math, and it makes sense but tbh I haven't seen much evidence proving it. There are other details like the fact that they've stopped testing for the flu early only because it was all hands on deck that also leave me somewhat skeptical.
Hand hygiene was a thing before 2020, it's not as if people all of the sudden started washing their hands during COVID.
As I was reading more on this, it's fairly interesting how scientists really don't have a clue what will happen during the next/following flu seasons. We can still have the masks, the handwashing, the distancing and so on but i'v seen one projection saying somewhere between 16-20k which would be 10x 2020.
If that happens or lets say it gets back to 6 figures then it would really break down the argument that the preventative measures alone was the reason for the 2020 numbers.
I get that, i don't know about where you live.. but, after covid, there are hand sanitizer stations in every store, at every cash register, almost anywhere you go. Sanitize before entering, sanitize during exit. Etc.
Now if their hands are clean, provided they haven't pulled their mask down to touch their mouth or nose, the chance of them spreading illness is low, obviously.
