derp. google is hard i guess.

That would be the correct definition of socialized medicine. I don't think TiStuff has the faintest clue what he's on about.

The regulations introduced with the ACA on insurers certainly had a negative impact on the working aged and healthy, and the individual mandate, forcing people to purchase a financial service whether they wanted it or not inordinately targeted the young and poor. But whatever it's faults, the ACA is not and never was socialized medicine.

The entire point is that BMI is a useless way to measure health. An athlete with a perfect diet and workout regimen who is six foot tall and weighs 265 pounds, and has a body fat percentage of 4% is not only healthy, but far more healthy than those who fall within the "perfect" weight zones for that height. Yet their BMI would show as 35.9 (Obese).

Health has far more to do with diet, exercise, and lack of recreational drug use (including tobacco and alcohol) than with arbitrary height vs weight numbers. This is not even a question, it's known and has been known by health experts worldwide for as long as the BMI scale has existed. The only reason BMI is still referred to is it's the only "easy" way to statistically calculate how nations are doing as far as general health goes.

Another statement without meaning. Are you capable of making a post that's not spam?

Still ISO a response on how you're pointing at America as so totally unhealthy when 67% of Australians are overweight (31.3% obese) by the exact same measurements you're judging America by. Whatever happened to your "America so fat" talking point? :)

How is that allowed to happen, exactly? When I look up Australian healthcare, it seems as though insurance is government run. Aka, you have socialized insurance, though the healthcare itself is still private. Why would taxpayers allow so much to be wasted on completely preventable healthcare costs?

Can you elaborate? I'm not certain I understand the question. What did Obama do with/about what, exactly?

Government has nothing to do with insurance, health is public, insurance is private.

Wut?

The Australian public accesses care within the public health system for free or at a lower cost through Medicare (funded by tax).

So I'm slightly confused. The "free healthcare" in Australia is based on what is in effect public option insurance (Medicare). It can be bolstered by private insurance, which allows you to select your own doctor, and also paves a way into private hospitals. Yet "public hospitals" don't really fall under the realm of "public" either? Like, the doctors and nurses are largely not government employees. It's like the government is working as some kind of contractor. Can you explain a bit more what you mean about health is public? I get that half your hospitals are "Public Hospitals" funded largely through medicare (taxpayer-paid insurance). But given the labor is not government provided but contract-based...

Yeah, I'm confused. Seeking more info. There's a lot to read on your system. Not as much as in our completely fucked system, but plenty, regardless.
