I was just showing bogie that inaction is condoning the status quo. If the status quo is unjust, your inaction is part of the problem.
This is all nice and well in a vacuum, but in practice, coming up with a truly objective assessment of the status quo of society is not easy, and coming to a common understanding about the problem which 80+ percent of society can sign off on is even harder. Just look at the endless debates we're having here on PaRD about policing and crime statistics.
The slogan "silence is violence" is a cheap attack trying to emontionally manipulate people into joining the protesters and their cause. This slogan seeks to delegitimize a nonviolent, cautious approach, and it seeks to legitimize hostility and potential violence against those who refuse to come on board. It serves to paint everyone who refuses to explicitly endorse the BLM movement and align himself with its goals as an enemy of racial justice in general - a stance which implicitly gives BLM an (unjustified) status as the official speaker and arbiter of the interests of PoC.
At the end of the day, it's just a variation of the old, tired "if you're not with us, you're against us"-trope that a lot of radical, totalitarian movements used throughout history.
