OP, maybe you'll surprise me by understanding this, but saying something is political, and declaring the lack of that thing to be non-political, is itself an expression of political power. Games are just as political when they don't go out of their way to create specific narratives as when they do because what is and isn't a political statement is a political statement. When you have a cast of fully straight people it's just as political as adding in a gay person to force representation. The difference is that the former expression of political power is hiding under the label of "normal" and the claim of not being political.
No I don't think you get it.
If they'd created the sequel building on the first game no one would complain. If they'd created a new franchise they could go all out with their new ideas and there might be some frowns and fingers pointing but nothing like is happening now.
Players feel screwed they know the story was obviously not meant to leak so if this had not happened everybody would just have bought the game expecting it to build on the existing story line.
This shit really is bad practice and unnecessary.
