still no ID on the texas shooter or his motives, but FBI said he was a local transient with a criminal history in multiple cities, and witnesses have now confirmed what some suspected based on the video- he was wearing a wig and fake beard
the guy who shot the gunman has been identified as Jack Wilson, an ex-FBI agent, deputy sheriff and national guard member who runs a gun range and was already running for county commissioner on a campaign platform of pro-Trump, pro-gun rights and anti-illegal aliens, with a rather eerily ironic campaign slogan of "Make sure your vote is on target". Yeah, that was before this shooting.

and followup- shooter ID'd as 43 year old Keith Thomas Kinnunen, a white homeless man with a lengthy violent record.
He was somewhat known to the church for harassing people at that same church before, which explains why he wore a disguise with a fake beard / wig- they would have recognized him and been on guard sooner. He demanded money from the parishioners and opened fire when they refused. He had also previously been arrested while suspiciously photographing a refinery, indicating some planning of a terrorist attack without care to what the target was.
It takes a bit of speculation and extrapolation but I'd figure that's neatly explained as someone who held rage towards the church on his delusional perception of them not holding to the Christian ideals of charity , and had planned asking them for money and shooting them when they said no. It would make sense from that warped worldview, especially for someone who's more interested in killing people or causing great harm just for its own sake.

this is a huge deal, these two were basically the top leadership of the Quds Force, the top terrorist side of the IRGC and propping up Iran's foreign proxies- Hezbollah in Palestine, Hamas and Palestinian Jihad in Israel, the Houthis in Yemen, and the Shia militias in Syria and Afghanistan and of course Iraq like Kaitab Hezbollah which was at issue here. He's been on terrorist lists and sanctions lists and one of the US's top public enemies for a long time now
