There was no groundwork therefore to think it was an actual serious attempt is retarded. We have strong and expansive civic institutions. To believe they would all magically crumble or do an about face is really ignorant of how the world works.
You can't even begin to describe the mechanics of how things would work without the groundwork that I mentioned because it'd literally be impossible, yet you're convinced it was the real deal. Like lol, critically think dawg, stop having the idiot box make you believe things that aren't plausible.
Could you explain how there was no groundwork? What actions would qualify as groundwork?
I think you have a pretty naive and ignorant view of what went on here. Real life isn't a movie... and this isn't Latin America in the 50's... a coup today might not look like a coup from back then. Trump pressured the Vice President to refuse to do his duty of overseeing the counting of electoral votes. Trump and his cronies gathered alternative electors from various states for the electoral college in order to replace the rightful electors, nullifying the will of the American people and aiding in his coup attempt. Trump leaned on people like the Georgian Secretary of State to "find him votes". Trump waged a campaign of disinformation before and after the election to misinform his voters about how the election was stolen in order to gather support for his self-coup. Trump did all of these things even after pursuing numerous lawsuits in several different state courts and failing in pretty much every one.
Trump gathered people to Washington DC on January 6th, spoke to them in a reckless way, including talking about how "we're going to walk down to the Capitol". He spoke knowing that some of these people were armed. Combine that with his clear lie that the election was stolen, and it's not surprising that the insurrection happened. It makes perfect sense... if the election truly was stolen, why wouldn't patriots rise up to reclaim American democracy on January 6th? After the insurrection happened, and his own Vice President was in danger, Trump decided to do nothing for several hours. A total abdication of his duty as president, and completely despicable behavior.
If any of this information is new, which I'm sure it is because you don't follow news which might burst your Trumpist bubble, maybe you should've paid attention to the January 6th Congressional committee. I'm also leaving out a lot of information simply for brevity, including Trump's attempt to be driven by Secret Service to the Capitol after he made his speech.
Again, if any of this fact pattern was done by a Democrat named Obama or Clinton, you would probably be advocating they be hanged. So let's not pretend people who take offense to Trump's attempted coup are hysterical. We simply cannot tolerate his assault on America, and also don't have any patience for the coalition of people who are drunk on his koolaid. The most potent Trump Derangement Syndrome is the one people like yourself are infected with, where you've abandoned any semblance of standards when the subject of discussion is Donald Trump.
