The legal firm leading a heap of lawsuits for Dominion Voting Systems against promoters of false claims about its voting software, recently expanded its armory of attorneys as it prepares to go to battle against former President Donald Trump’s “Big Lie” about a stolen 2020 presidential election.
The Daily Beast reported on Monday night that Clare Locke — the legal team orchestrating Dominion’s complaints — welcomed assistance from seven attorneys at Susman Godfrey, a firm known for its defamation litigation.
Dominion lawyers have already filed a host of billion-dollar lawsuits in recent months against Trump’s former election lawyers Rudy Giuliani and Sidney Powell, as well as MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell and most recently, Fox News.
The beefed up legal team comes as Dominion lawyers signal plans to deliver another round of lawsuits to conservative news networks that willingly aired debunked theories of a stolen election that involved false claims about Dominion.
“We’re looking at other media outlets, and making sure we can meet all of the elements of defamation,” Dominion attorney Tom Clare told Axios in a podcast interview published Monday.” There were other outlets that played a similar role to Fox in spreading these lies. I expect that we’re going to be holding them accountable as well.”
Two people told the Daily Beast that Newsmax and One American News Network could be fresh targets in that effort.
Dominion lawyers last week accused Fox News in a $1.6 billion defamation lawsuit of giving “life to a manufactured storyline about election fraud that cast a then-little-known voting machine company called Dominion as the villain.”
The network stood by its coverage in a statement Friday: “Fox News Media is proud of our 2020 election coverage, which stands in the highest tradition of American journalism, and will vigorously defend against this baseless lawsuit in court.”
Lawyers from the Texas-based firm have an expansive portfolio litigating against Trumpworld conspiracy theorists, taking aim against the so-called “Kraken releaser” Powell and former conspiracy-curious Trump attorney Lin Wood.
“There are great synergies between the work that the Susman team had done on the 2020 election and the defamation cases we were pursuing for Dominion,” Tom Clare, one of the top lawyers in the billion-dollar lawsuits told The Daily Beast.
He said that the two firms shared a “ready for trial approach to litigation.”
“I think it’s going to be a very effective team,” he told the publication.
Susman attorney Justin Nelson, who was recruited for the Dominion lawsuits, represented Arizona Secretary of State Katie Hobbs in an election fraud lawsuit filed by the former Trump lawyers about compromised voting machines and ballot-stuffing by Democrats in Arizona.
Nelson argued at the time that Wood, Powell, and others were “using the federal court system in an attempt to undermine the rule of law and obtain breathtaking, startling and unprecedented relief to overturn the will of the people.”
According to the Daily Beast, sources said that Dominion’s legal team hasn’t ruled out a lawsuit against the ex-president, who is already facing a series of other legal battles related to his finances and behavior during and before his presidency.
