Fiscal responsibility is dead. It has no base of support in either party. Democrats have always been profligates, Republicans have given up on losing elections because of it.

We are never paying off the debt, we're going to have to inflate it away.

I'm happy to be the last voter who supports fiscal responsibility, compromise, and decency.

Balancing the budget could be a thing if enough voters cared. I do... apparently you don't.

Lowering taxes while increasing spending is fiscally irresponsible. I know it pains you to discuss areas where Trump falls short, but he's the leader of the party. Rational people without a cultish attitude can acknowledge those shortcomings, be honest about them, and demand better. Yes, we all know both parties have created the fiscal mess, but Trump has just made it worse. In so many ways he's shown the true nature of the Republican party, especially in this particular area.

That's fantastic that you care, and i'm sure if we were to do a survey vast majority of Americans would say the same. Where the break down in agreement happens is that comes at a cost, higher taxes or reduced spending in which case once again vast majority of Americans would be against those two things.

So politicians aren't going to commit political suicide by going after entitlements or vastly higher taxes, hence even why the Democrats don't want people like Bernie to get into office. Again this isn't about Trump and what he's doing isn't drastically different when it comes to fiscal policy that the average tax cutting military loving republican would have done. You just think it is because you're so hyper focused on him failing to even notice recent historical realities.

Anyways,

Quote
The national opinion poll found that 43% of U.S. adults supported the Republican-led Senate’s decision on Wednesday to keep Trump in office in a case stemming from his dealings with Ukraine. Forty-one percent opposed the acquittal and 17% said they were undecided.

Right thing happened. Let democracy decide what happens in 2020 instead of bureaucrats.

It's a silly argument. I haven't heard anyone making it who thinks Trump's actions warrant him getting voted out of office. It's essentially saying "Trump shouldn't face any consequences for his actions, but I'm going to hide behind the democracy argument".

Consequences for something that’s only deemed wrong by his political opponents.

Removing Trump from office for this would have been an egregious disregard for democracy. I get it you don’t like him but at least have some respect for democracy?

A 43-41 split with 17% undecided and the great majority of both Republicans and Democrats wanting witnesses in the Senate trial.

Perhaps the right result happened, but the process was a sham and there is still plenty of missing info.

You're about 3 weeks behind. The talking point has been for quite a while that what he did was definitely bad, and illegal, but not bad enough to remove from office over.
