Golan heights was taken in defensive wars, the west bank was taken from Jordan (the true Palestinian state and the root cause of all the problems in this region)
Gaza was taken from Egypt just like the sinai peninsula and we returned both meaning we have no need for expansion and that we will go a great deal for peace.

I would say that you don't want to end up fighting like the US in Iraq. Although it has already happened with the IDF going back over areas they already cleared, again and again.
If it ends up that Hamas' ability is all about destroyed then perhaps it is worth it, for now it is a strategic failure and saying that their hands are tied is not going to wash after so many mass bombings and civilians killed.

Civilian casualties went down drastically after few months in the war. IMO Hamas are disappointed and would have want Israel to be in a situation of 250K dead Gazans.
Strategy isn’t perfect but you can definitely see improvements. That being said I still think we are losing badly and can’t see a way out from this mess.
