So tons of media outlets, from CNN to NPR / etc, are reporting on the figure of visas revoked by the immigration EO in a really deceptive way.
From the NPR article:
Quote
100,000 visas were revoked as a result of the order, as Carmel Delshad of member station WAMU reported.
Both numbers are considerably higher than the figure provided by the Department of Homeland Security earlier this week. Kevin McAleenan, acting commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection told reporters on Tuesday that 721 people with visas had not been allowed to board airplanes to the U.S. in the first 72 hours after the order went into effect. An additional 1,135 people with visas were granted waivers to enter the country, he said.
60000 visas were temporarily revoked. A DoJ attorney mistakenly claimed it was 100000 during testimony, but that number included exempt and expired visas that weren't affected
Then all sorts of news articles started comparing that to the figure in the 100-700 range of people who actually had their travel impacted, as if it was some gigantic bigger number and had been lied to.
For example:
http://www.politicususa.com/2017/02/03/trump-busted-big-lie-government-admits-court-100000-impacted-muslim-ban.htmlQuote
The hundreds of thousands of visas impacted contradicts the Trump administration’s claims that only a few hundred people were impacted at airports.
Its just insanely deceptive, because its comparing the number of people who were actually traveling on affected visas to the number of people who own affected visas.
Only a small fraction of the visa holders are trying to enter the country at any given time, so comparing 109 people who had their flights disrupted on the first day and then claiming the real number of 600x larger is flat out fake news.
Maybe NPR news should run an article comparing the total amount of tax revenue the feds get in april under Trump to the budget deficit of Obama's last year and claim we're suddenly running a bajillion dollar surplus because they were comparing apples to oranges.
