this could have been really interesting in perhaps a podcast type of scenario but it ended up so grossly televisiony that I am quite disappointed

Glenn Beck is a weird dude. I was actually listening to his show the day they taped that segment and he had Samantha Bee on. They didn't really discuss anything beyond the "hey why can't two people from different sides talk to each other" nonsense.
