Legality is a question of law. To have law you must have sovereignty. The ICJ does not possess sovereignty over Israel or any other state. Ergo, what Israel does may be morally dubious, horrific, ghastly, or perfectly ok, but what it does is neither legal nor illegal except insofar as it concerns Israeli domestic law.

What matters to Israel is American support. Left wing activists in the United States are a far bigger threat.

In that case, international law. Like I said, there's not much the court can do other than condemn the illegal actions of Israel. The fact it can't be enforced with boots on the ground doesn't make it legal. It's still an illegal occupation in the end, whether Israel agrees or not.

A law that can't be enforced isn't a law at all. Where law is enforced it's enforced by sovereign powers. There is American law, and it can be enforced wherever American power holds sway. Something can be legal or illegal in that context. The ICJ has no such authority. Whatever Israel's actions, the ICJ's opinion has no more legal weight than if I were to declare myself the world's divinely ordained autocrat due an annual 10% of global production as crown duty.

It is. All 193 UN member states are parties to the Statute of the International Court of Justice after signing the UN Charter, giving the Court legal authority to rule on cases of international law between parties. The fact that it won't be applied because Israel is the guilty party doesn't make the law non-existent and it doesn't put the law on par with your delusions of grandeur.

No offense but if you think "government entities" abide to laws when it comes to WAR you are not only mistaken you are a fool.

Almost every armed conflict kicks off with what is condemned and against international accords. Then the ones who end the war through force dictate the terms and the laws going into the future.

Did anyone really think that after 10/7 Israel was going to "follow international laws". Fuck no.

Did the US after 9/11? No.

Don't know how this isn't blatantly obvious to anyone whose been alive for more then 30 years.

Condemn all you want. A country will always ACT on it's own behalf despite any international law people THINK they are bound by.

edit: The winners don't follow the rules. They bend and break them at WILL.

Houthis are really becoming an annoying thorn. I don’t think these strikes actually break their resolve, probably opposite as it further radicalizes them

I'm not expecting Israel to play by the rules, I'm pointing out to a legal judgement that says they are indeed not playing by the rules (illegally occupying Palestinian territories). I won't be crying for them when neighboring countries also don't play by the rules, but surely the US will take action against them. If anything it will at least expose the hypocrisy surrounding Israel.

A bit ironic considering the origin of the Charter too.

Which neighbours though?
Egypt? Essentially bankrupt country perpetually on the brink of famine lurching from internal crisis to internal crisis.
Syria? lol
Gulf states? They would rather see Gaza burn than start a war with Israel. Much more occupied with countering Iranian proxies and influence.

The only legitimate threat is Hezbollah and we have seen already they don't want the smoke. Netanyahu would probably love an excuse to turn southern Lebanon from worthless sand into glass.
Hezbollah is not about to disarm so that conflict is inevitable.

I agree with you but I would never expect anything other then what we've seen throughout history to just perpetually repeat itself.

Because the United States military truly dwarfs others and it's sphere of influence goes beyond just "outright military strength" there is no reason for them to play by the rules when shit hits the fan.

We will launch a bio attack, nuclear strike, or cyber attack without any justification or process of "law". We simply will say "what are you going to do about it". It's total EGO and the US is the entity that distributes that chaos.

I don't believe my country will ever be held accountable for toppling countries that were totally fine without us. We won't give away our "Top World Superpower Status" to ANYONE. We won't budge even a millimeter.

Truly funny when I see the BRICS nations trying to upper cut Uncle Sam. Truly funny when I see we are 35 trillion in debt and no one is going to "call us on that debt". "Hey you owe us! OK. Come and take it".

Israel much like the US will never play by the rules. Social media just wasn't a thing when we were dropping bombs over Baghdad. The true carnage we caused from the Gulf War to our exiting of Afghanistan is beyond human comprehension. Do we ever hear about it though? No. The United States military acts on it's own accord in risk to risk situations. We as American citizens don't want us involved in any foriegn wars but the population is too stupid to understand we have to be over there so that the war isn't literally on "our soil".

We put a base in everyones elses backyard so when there's an argument down the street we can decide who will recieve our punishment for "acting out of line". That's every level. Financially/Militarily/Spiritually/etc.

I'm seeing this ruling as a step in the right direction. Obviously we won't be seeing any changes soon, but it might force Israel to drop the "we're persecuted" act and own up to their illegal occupation. At least I'll try to remain idealistic about the whole conflict.

You're using "international law" as a proxy for morality. Simply make the moral argument.

You're acknowledging that the very same parties which are beholden to "international law" openly flout it.
