A skinny person wouldn't be asked that question, even though they could have high blood pressure, HIV, or other things that are indicative of poor health.

Skinny people are also asked (other) degrading questions or just degrading (and incorrect) comments.

Girls don't "look like prepubescent boys". They are girls that look like the girls that they are. Your comment is degrading, and you should be ashamed.

You're defining femininity by certain constraints whereby some girls (women) who are the way that they are don't have a valid appearance.

She is right. There is this whole movement where people act like they care about other peoples' health as a way to degrade others without actually doing so overtly. A skinny person wouldn't be asked that question, even though they could have high blood pressure, HIV, or other things that are indicative of poor health. He wouldn't have asked my really skinny and attractive buddy if his doctor said he was healthy, and he is developing COPD at 42.

The "does the doctor say are you healthy" is another way of calling somebody an ugly fat ass lol. Except people get to lie to themselves as they're making themselves feel better. It is dishonest schadenfreude. At least have the integrity to own it instead of pretending to care about a fake health crisis.

If every girl looked like a prepubescent boy then there wouldn't be threads like this. Look at what was beautiful and healthy during the Renaissance. Health is a cultural concept not some objective thing.

The implication that a person should feel bad about themselves if they don't fit into certain culturally derived measurements is fucking laughable.

You might not have seen that video so let me explain why he asked her that. She said diets don't work because she always regained the weight. Keep in mind she lost the weight so the diets did in fact work she just stopped trying and reverted back to her old habits. That's why "diets" will only work in the long haul if people make a lifestyle change.

She also tried to downplay the fact that obesity is related to health issues hence him asking if the doctor told her she was healthy. People who try to promote obesity as an okay lifestyle in terms of health should be criticized since it increases their risk in every aspect. Also not sure what you mean by health is cultural so you'll have to explain that. Risk factors are empirically measured, ie waist size, cholesterol, blood pressure, etc so I think it is an objective thing. I'm not defending fat shaming so don't confuse my post for that. I don't think fat shaming would help the situation at all but rather make it worse since shaming someone just causes them to be depressed and gain even more weight. But I'm also not okay with people promoting obesity as something people don't have control over or that it's perfectly healthy to be obese.

I've always enjoyed that video clip. I do wonder though: Do we have a moral obligation to be healthy? I know that the focus was on obesity/body weight, but that question at the end is a valid one.

Yes you do, if you are relying upon a government based healthcare system that unequally distributes funds from healthy people to unhealthy people.
In a free market, people are free to be unhealthy without any consequence on anyone else.

I wouldn't call it a moral obligation, more of a logical obligation.

I could be a slob , not exercise or be active, not eat right and be a drain on society.
Or i could be active , feel better, and not be a drain on society.

And how are we to define what's healthy or not?
