UN commission accuses Israel of crimes against humanity and Hamas of war crimesA UN commission created by the Human Rights Council after the 11-day war between Israel and Hamas in May 2021 published, Wednesday June 12, a report of investigations into Hamas attacks against Israel and of the Jewish state in the West Bank and Gaza.
The document accuses Israel of being responsible in the Gaza Strip for crimes against humanity, in particular for “extermination”. Palestinian armed groups have been accused of war crimes since the October 7 attack on Israeli territory.
In his conclusion, he accuses the Israeli army of "crimes against humanity of extermination, murder, gender-based persecution targeting Palestinian men and boys, forcible transfer, acts of torture and inhuman and cruel treatment, were committed.”
Without commenting on this report, the Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, affirmed, during a press briefing in Geneva, that the UN was aware of "the unique level of destruction and victims within the Palestinian population during these months of war, which has no precedent in any other situation that I have experienced as Secretary General of the United Nations.
Obstacles to investigations denounced by the UN :
According to UN investigators, the Israeli authorities and “the military wing of Hamas and six other Palestinian armed groups” are “responsible” for “war crimes”. The president of the commission, Navi Pillay, assured in a press release that it was “imperative that all those who [had] committed crimes be held accountable”.
