The hostages are a red herring at this point. Hamas aren't admitting they're dead because it's the only leverage they have in negotiations, but based on the recent hostages found all being dead and Hamas changing the proposed cease fire agreement to include dead hostages as well as live ones, it's safe to assume it's a miracle if more than a few are still alive.

In an existential war, you can't divert from a winning strategy to save a few hostages who are probably dead anyway. Netanyahu knows this but still acts like returning the hostages is a priority because of domestic political pressure.

They just have to stay the course for a while longer and finish the job.
