Which is the whole point here: in the lead-up to the 2020 election, and even more so after January 6th, they were urging conservatives to vote for Biden/Democrats, to give power to a platform that they loathe, all in the name of "democracy", "manners", "decorum", "truth" or "putting the 'adults' back in charge". They tried to get the vote of wavering Republicans/conservatives by framing the choice as one between policy preferences and "greater principles".

As it turns out, rumors of Biden's decency and competence were greatly exaggerated. By replacing Trump with Biden, the country traded slightly less of a shitshow in terms of messaging and optics for catastrophic policy blunder after catastrophic policy blunder.
