Am I the only one who thinks that it's less than flattering for Biden to be paired with Obama in some sense? I mean... for those who really liked Obama, pairing Biden with him is probably effective and boosts their enthusiasm and potentially their turnout. But for those who either dislked him or were meh about him, associating Biden with him might have the opposite effect.

It's like... even in his prime, Biden wasnt good enough to do more than playing second fiddle to someone else, and now that he's visibly and undeniable deteriorated, he's still the best the Democratic party has to offer and we're supposed to take him seriously as a "1A" solution? Pairing Biden with Obama reminds everyone of this painful truth. It reminds everyone that the guy the Democratic party actually would like to nominate, the guy who is still the true leader of the party, is Obama.

I honestly think biden is meant to fail and 2024 will be the serious candidate.

I think this was the plan, but then corona and the George Floyd thing hit - and now, it suddenly looks as if Biden will have a very good shot at actually winning. But I really dont see him running for a 2nd term, which he would start at age 82 and finish at age 86. So therefore, given Biden's age, his VP will automatically be in the pole position to be the leader of the Democratic party going forward. It's a monumental choice they have to make, and they have to make it now, in a moment where their bench of political talent is thin. And they've cornered themselves with the whole "nominate a woman" and "nominate a person of color" thing.

Harris in the only one who checks all the boxes, but her campaign was a trainwreck organizationally, she doesnt excite the left, she actively mobilizes the Trumpian right against her, and I really dont know whether a crooked cop type figure like Harris (who is also the descendant of slave-owners) is the right choice for the current political moment. If it's not Harris, then who else? Abrams? Some unknown backbencher like Val Demmings? That Atlanta mayor who stabbed her own PD in the back to score woke points? The Karen-in-chief from Michigan? Michelle Obama?

That was a primary. And her opponent was only half-heartedly pushed by the party establishment anyways.

Too bad AOC is too young to be president/vice president. She would tick all the boxes: woman of color, excites the left, excites young voters, media savvy, heiress apparent of the Bernie movement, can lead the party into the future. Maybe she can try in 2024.

Young might also be a selling point.

Selling point to young voters, disadvantage to older voters. Since there's more old than young voters, it's probably a net negative. The ideal age for a politician running for a high office like the presidency is probably 40-50.

Obama looks pained there. Having to witness Biden stammer along talking about how he was in 'grade school when he was 20' -_-

Not so much "meant to fail" as "let's not put our strongest candidates out against somebody with an incumbent advantage"

At this point anybody who thinks Trump wasn't at least partially a backlash against having a black president is just blind. They literally elected the king of the birthers.
