I'm from an economy where they did cut 200 mil in art, and it directly resulted in masses of art students going into catering jobs.
Art is a part of an economy, creating inspiration and resulting into innovation and tourism.
/e What I mean is that supporting art has indirect benefits that don't always reflect their market value for their contribution at the time.
Van Gogh was Dutch, as an extreme example.
