i usually read a few paragraphs at most and leave it at that, the topics are usually ridiculous enough that other people will debate back and forth on it at length ^_^

you could have just said "no, i didn't read it"...

intellectually lazy fabricated outrage. you're d2jsp's breitbart...

yes you did, liar: https://forums.d2jsp.org/topic.php?t=77347766&f=119&p=569171771
and i'm pretty sure you did it before you got that pathetic multi because your "ampoo" account got banned...

no need for me to "fearmonger", nature is unfortunately proving me and all the climate scientists right. just yesterday dozens died in western germany due to floodings... just "a fEw tHunDeRsToRms", huh? north america is burning, we have record temperatures and extreme weather events literally everywhere, and ideologically blinded science deniers like yourself still try to pretend "this isn't happening - and if it is, it always has - and if it hasn't, it was expected and inevitable - and if it wasn't, adaptation alone can deal with it - and if it can't, at least now it's a problem for a future generation and i don't have to be inconvenienced or change anything"...

singular event that happens just like that since civilisation exists.....but i guess thats now suddenly "proof" for your agenda

pathetic

but keep embarrassing yourself, you claimed that i denied the fact that co2 molecules absorb radiation and then you link me saying that i dont see a direct correlation between emissions and temperature increase on the planet, slight difference sweetheart

for fucks sake

desperate green party minion and liar, it gets worse every time

reported btw

The savior of all minority math students arrives!

The entire debate is stupid, the core of the argument it "biased people can not by their very nature create something objective". which is of course false, as much as claiming that the linguistic examples in math story problems are "math". story problems are by their very nature a combination of reading comprehension and mathematics, two separate educational endeavors, and at their core an attempt to make math students better prepared to utilize objective math concepts in a grey world.

"The LA crips number 172, and recruit 5 new members per week, while killing 7 LA Bloods per week.

The LA Bloods number 195, and recruit 3 new members per week, while killing 6 LA crips.

if these numbers remain constant while gang will win the war, and how many weeks will it take?"

Are you referencing duffs article? Because it spells out what she means and I don't see how this relates to that.

indeed i am, and i dont see where what she lays out relates to math.

she's lumping math generally with data/statistics, a small but influential branch of math mixed with social sciences and language. which is bad math and statistics.

She's calling out people who abuse the fact that math is a logical system to argue that social statistics inherently prove racist conclusions because "its just math".

I'd say you probably agree with her criticism lol

You don't get to separate math from how it's used any more than you can separate the study of physics from the development of nuclear arms. Applications and multidisciplinary aspects of a field are still aspects of the field. We have applied mathematics classes in the math department for a reason.

i agree with her criticism, but find anyone who needs to try and honestly debate with Shapiro fanboys spamming "facts dont care about your feelings" to be an idiot. Literal day 1 of any stats course goes over how most stats are biased and misleading, so you're arguing the nature of stats with people who havent taken a stats course.

in her case i also dont find her specific words to be really well stated, but thats minor.

it breaks down to "math isnt objective because math + social sciences + language isnt objective". math is objective, mixing it with other shit isn't. stats isnt just a subfield of math, like geometry, trig, calc, etc. its a tangential field of math in almost all practice.

A hammer is objective, but can be used to build a burning cross. The use of tools in inappropriate ways us an important thing to discuss, and even more so when they're abused by those with very little training. Authority figures in the field actively communicating to the public the abuses of their field is a good thing IMO.

It was indeed poorly communicated but that's pretty standard for math teachers.

Ya it just can be summed up as a math teacher feeling the need to explain that stats are biased to online trolls that dont know what standard deviation is let alone how to calculate it. just silly to me.

Yeah, right... debates about the foundations of set theory are tooootally relevant to the curriculum of 9th grade students, who are trying to grasp basic matrix algebra or trigonometric functions and such.

Never said they were. I was merely getting you to acknowledge that math can indeed be influenced by political processes.
