Fake news. The estimated infection fatality rate (IFR) of covid-19 is around 0.5-0.6%, that of the flu is 0.1%. Additionally, with the flu, there is less of a delay between the onset of symptoms and the start of contagiousness. Covid-positive persons being highly infectious 1-2 days before the onset of their own symptoms is what makes stopping this virus such a pain in the ass.

I wore a mask whenever i was sick as a courtesy to others before covid came around. I understand that if I have the coronavirus I'm less likely to put others at risk by wearing a mask which is why i do it.

The difference between the flu's IFR of 0.1% and covid's IFR of around 0.6% is gigantic. Covid is 6 times as lethal as the flu based on these numbers.
