I don't think the media is trying to influence Afghanistan policy. I do think that they jumped the gun in releasing contents. I'm not a fan of releasing intelligence, no matter how credible, because the American people don't have the capacity to evaluate it properly. It's almost certainly true that Russia paid the Taliban to kill US troops. But so what? The President is between a rock and a hard place on that one. Sanctions are probably appropriate but if the President doesn't want to do that, that's his prerogative. I do think Congress has a right to investigate the intelligence behind closed doors and they should.

I’m not sure when Democrats became the party of arguing for large standing armies all across the globe and giving the US taxpayer the bill. We have 200,000 soldiers abroad. That’s an outrageous amount. The era of being the worlds police man needs to come to an end.
