if DACA recipients were naturalized, this would create incentives for future illegal immigration. thats what i meant.
Except since DACA border crossings and illegal immigration have continued to go down at record rates. You're giving your analogy, but the results we have seen before us are the exact opposite
you seem to have difficulties grasping the concept of "
todays action will create incentives in the
future".
the falling rates of illegal immigration are the result of the financial crisis and trumps crackdown on illegal immigrants. in other words: in recent years, the incentives to come to the USA illegaly have gone down, thats why fewer of them are coming.
if you would create new incentives today, for example the perspective of getting your kids into the usa permanently, even if you yourself are eventually deported, this would cause the rates to go up again in the future.
aside from this point, there are already 11 million illegals in the country. even if the rates are going down, the number of illegals keeps rising as long as the rates are positive at all. wait for several years of double digit
negative illegal immigration rates (ie more illegals leaving the country than new ones coming in), wait for a reduction of their numbers to say 1 or 2 million, then we can talk.
this whole "rates are going down, therefore everything is ok"-argument is like someone with a water-pipe burst saying "my whole basement is under water, but we closed the pipe halfway through, so the water level in my basement now rises by 2 inches per hour instead of 5 inches. therefore, everything is good, no need for further action, lets go on with life as normal."
