The number of illegals currently in the United states is an estimate.

Oh, but that's not convenient is it? You would have to criticize trump for taking an estimate seriously.

Lol. How do you know if you haven't read the article that TCassa89 posted?

/e I mean, since my criticism is about...the article.

Your criticism is actually about the language used in the article, not the content

Yes, analysis is better than assumption. But facts are even better than analysis.
Here is the whole paragraph...

They switched the gist of the article in the middle. First they talked about Dreamers, then switched to talking about illegal immigrants.

Notice also, they use the words estimates and believed. If you were buying a car would you accept terms like "estimates" and "believed"? Then why would you, in an article about something this important?
Yes sir, this car is "believed" to have a 530cc engine.

That's what an analysis is, it is the examination and estimation of a specific subject, but contrary to what your prior posts have suggested it is not a guess. The general estimations show illegal immigrants contributing around $12 billion to social security each year, however revenue isn't always consistent, some years bring in greater revenue than others, hence it is an estimation. In any case, illegal immigrants are not given the same entitlements as legal residents, the only entitlements illegal immigrants are subject for are local level expenses. If these local expenses were as significant as your assumptions, then the so called sanctuary cities would be the first ones advocating for their removal.

Illegal aliens are on the way out. No point in even discussing this.

The article now, started off talking about DACA and the Dreamers. This is also what the topic is about.
I was just pointing out that the "talk" in the article is one thing and the numbers are another. The math doesn't work...like the article pretends it does.

The article is dated March 1, 2016...the start of the campaigning, more or less.

Here is a quote from the article...

The institute's report estimates about a third of such immigrants nationally are homeowners, subjecting them to property tax payments. Another 50 percent are believed to pay income taxes. And as much as 75 percent of the population is believed to pay into the U.S. Social Security system (a system of benefits they wouldn't be eligible to receive anyway unless they became U.S. citizens).

Sorry but during an election year, I'd want to see more that guesses pulled out of thin air.
Also, that quote is about illegal immigrants, NOT the 800,000 Dreamers.

If they are a W4 employees, their employer is required by law to take FICA taxes out of their paycheck. So unless we are talking about 1099 here, which we aren't because you don't need to use a birth certificate to get a 1099 contract, they are absolutely all paying into Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security with no ability to benefit from it. They're letting us rip them off financially and they are OK with it.

if DACA recipients were naturalized, this would create incentives for future illegal immigration. thats what i meant.
Except since DACA border crossings and illegal immigration have continued to go down at record rates. You're giving your analogy, but the results we have seen before us are the exact opposite

you seem to have difficulties grasping the concept of "todays action will create incentives in the future".

the falling rates of illegal immigration are the result of the financial crisis and trumps crackdown on illegal immigrants. in other words: in recent years, the incentives to come to the USA illegaly have gone down, thats why fewer of them are coming.
if you would create new incentives today, for example the perspective of getting your kids into the usa permanently, even if you yourself are eventually deported, this would cause the rates to go up again in the future.

aside from this point, there are already 11 million illegals in the country. even if the rates are going down, the number of illegals keeps rising as long as the rates are positive at all. wait for several years of double digit negative illegal immigration rates (ie more illegals leaving the country than new ones coming in), wait for a reduction of their numbers to say 1 or 2 million, then we can talk.

this whole "rates are going down, therefore everything is ok"-argument is like someone with a water-pipe burst saying "my whole basement is under water, but we closed the pipe halfway through, so the water level in my basement now rises by 2 inches per hour instead of 5 inches. therefore, everything is good, no need for further action, lets go on with life as normal."
