Lol yeah I do this a lot too. Although it's especially annoying when people claim me to have views I never even joked about having.

They just extrapolate :)

People always argue with me about how I want to the government to come and take all guns or have a full government takeover of health care when it just isn't true. It is easier to strawman people.

14 was a National Geographic Survey

10 Public Policy Polling

And I worked briefly (hated it) for a firm calling itself the Institute of Policy Research and places like Gallop and Rasmussen would hire us to do these sorts of surveys.

They are all terrible  Techniques are getting better, but the entire way to reach people has changed now that people don't have house phones, can't track how many calls to individual households because cells, all sorts of really complicating things have happened to polling since the digital explosion. One of the people there running it was a sociologist who was a demographer and he was always on the verge of a nervous breakdown.

The places would hire us to ask these questions that were just worded either very unclearly, ambiguously, or with a ton of bias, and it was always a huge deal getting to the "right" question with them, because they totally had the results in mind already when they came to us, and since they're hiring us, there is tremendous pressure to deliver.

So yeah, it is corrupt as fuck like everything else in America compromised by the profit motive.
