You should be able to get a job to get you by in a week, but getting a great career job is not as simple. A rainy day fund is a luxury.

My point is you shouldn't mooch unemployment if you're able to go get a serving or retail job to bide your time til you can land that career job you want

How are you going to interview and attain a career job when you are flipping burgers 40 hours a week?
