Turns out that policy about hijackings before September 11th was to allow hijackers to divert the course of the plane, because nobody has used commercial aviation as an instrument of destruction. Typically hijackers were like Dan Cooper, holding hostages in order to make a quick buck. Nobody on the plane saw it coming, the crew and pilot had these orders, and they carried it out.
i understand the crew having to follow protocol but if the only thing standing between me not being a hostage and freedom is a guy with a box blade i'd fight. giving up and being a hostage right away is bullshit especially when the numbers were so stacked for the hostages. when you allow yourself to become a victim is when you can expect it to end badly imo.
