I believe we only recently entered an age where humans don't need some form of religion in order for society to be "tamed" and remain civil.

During the history of the human race, religion played a very important role in helping earlier civilizations make sense of the world around them. This was very helpful in shaping early societies which allowed the human race to focus on more important tasks at hand.

In recent centuries, we have become more aware and conscious of the idea that "it is okay to not know the answers and that there isn't necessarily a higher reason behind X Y or Z".

I feel we don't "need" religion anymore, in the sense of the reason it came to be originally.

"What is the giant yellow ball in the sky"
"Why did the village near mine got exploded by a giant sky rock"
"Why are the pastures and agriculture in my enemy village so much better than mine"

Religion was historically used to help people be "okay" with these things, and continue with their lives attempting to better their societies.

We don't really need that anymore. Religion can teach good and morals but so can anyone in any context. We don't need religion to teach anything that religion teaches.

And consider the number of religions that emerged during entire human history, the obvious wrong explanations in all of those religious books, using fake religion lore to explain natural phenomena etc etc etc

I don't disagree with the idea that there could be a higher power. Could be a simulation, could be Aliens who generate life on various planets, could be Allah technically i cant disprove it. But the burden to prove is on those who claim it does exist. To me its impossible to conceive the general religion claims for their "god" being the right god who gets to call the shots for the human race.

Something as basic as the concept that god created children tortured and rape as part of "reality". Either willingly allowing it to exist, or even if god does not have the power to stop it. There are just too many obvious plot holes in most organized religion as a concept to begin with.

Detroit is an awesome city tbh

These numbers, however staggering, only begin to illustrate the immense human cost and the deep scars left by the violent history associated with religions. Mostly Christian and Muslim conflicts thruout human history generally speaking.

There is also a major point to consider which is a religious person killing for religion is not the same as an atheist person killing, but not killing for atheism. Much like we don't consider a christan person killing a bank robber in self defense, a "religious kill". So we don't consider the random atheist person killing for money or land, a kill "for atheism". However all conflicts above are killing and war because of religious disagreements.
