“There are no Christians, as far as I know, blowing up buildings. I am not aware of any Christian suicide bombers. I am not aware of any major Christian denomination that believes the penalty for apostasy is death. I have mixed feelings about the decline of Christianity, in so far as Christianity might be a bulwark against something worse.”

Total estimated deaths from these conflicts: Approximately 140 million. These numbers, however staggering, only begin to illustrate the immense human cost and the deep scars left by the violent history associated with religions. Mostly Christian and Muslim conflicts thruout human history generally speaking.
There is also a major point to consider which is a religious person killing for religion is not the same as an atheist person killing, but not killing for atheism. Much like we don't consider a christan person killing a bank robber in self defense, a "religious kill". So we don't consider the random atheist person killing for money or land, a kill "for atheism". However all conflicts above are killing and war because of religious disagreements.
