He's probably holed up in a house somewhere holding people hostage trying to figure out wtf to do now

People always blame the guns. Guns are just the easy option available for mental people to choose from.
Take away guns and the next object becomes available.

making it harder to access guns is a really good starting point, its easier to buy a gun than it is to vote in the majority of states.
there should be a mandatory mental health test and background check for starters

You from Scotland? Just looked at your profile.

Makes sense that you and a guy from Canada "don't get guns".

The United States was the closest thing to a utopia but look at what's causing it's downfall and it's all downhill from here. You think your more safe then us (laughs out loud)

Your lucky by geography the hoards of Muslims haven't crashed through your boarder. You yourself volunteering to take in some Palestinian refugees?

From a military strategic standpoint we've been using the UK/Ireland/Scotland/Israel technically all our "Allies" until it really goes south then you all will be on your own. Good luck.

Keep making fun of American gun owners in the end we'll see who starves and who doesn't.

 your angry and frightened dude.

I can understand why you need a gun to feel strong and safe.

I'll agree that it's pretty easy to legally purchase a firearm from a licensed dealer, but I'll disagree that it's easier than voting.
Problem is that it's very easy to obtain/sell a gun outside licensed dealers though, so maybe implementing some sort of process for selling a gun to say a friend or a friend of a friend (and punishment if not followed).

I agree with the mental health check, but I believe background checks are conducted through FBI for firearm purchases (maybe I'm wrong or it's a state by state law decision) and I'm not sure if that's bounced off any sort of mental health database; however, I know it's illegal for someone that has been diagnosed with mental illness or has been committed to a mental institution to own firearms and/or ammunition but not sure how this is enforced/regulated - there's no database/catalog of "this person with mental health owns/owned X, Y, Z guns before mental diagnostic/committing and shouldn't".

I've not bought a gun in a long time so can't remember the process but you definitely fill out a form and your information is checked against some sort of database to ensure you're not a convicted felon, fugitive, etc

to no one's surprise, the shooter had a bad mental health episode that precipitated the tragedy.
as a country, we are failing to provide support for the people that need it the most

and he was allowed to legally buy one of the guns he used after his stint in the ward, absolutely bonkers there isnt a system in place to prevent this kind of thing
