They never published the allegations as true. In fact they explicitly mentioned that they were unsubstantiated.

So perhaps it's not worth reporting? CNN is bottom of the barrel in terms of cable news.

Of course it was worth reporting, it was a major story which is why basically every outlet published a story around it.

Yea, so major that no one talked about after 48 hours.

CNN took A LOT of heat from several reputable outlets, and rightfully so. But hey, anything to make a quick buck or two, right?

I'm no fan of CNN and never use it as a source for myself, but they are reliable and I don't see how they did anything wrong in this instance.

The vast majority of news is irrelevant and not talked about after 48 hours, that's just the nature of it, which is why it's usually best avoiding. By major story I merely meant it was covered by the majority of news outlets.

They very infamously, aren't.
Personally I don't fear flying because my plane might get hit with a microblackhole

As I said, they conflated the dossier about #goldenshowers with the credible sections of the intelligence report, and presented it as being credible, which it wasn't, and they would know that, if they had vetted their source instead of printing it only knowing "the dossier was in the report, and the report is real", without the context of why it was in there or what it meant. They specifically presented a bogus fanfic story as being "sensitive classified intelligence", and they were completely wrong, and used it as a tool to try to smear a political opponent with a debased attack.

Many of whom put out statements specifically lambasting the lack of journalistic integrity involved in the story.

They are biased but they are reliable in the sense their facts are usually correct and when they aren't they issue corrections. I am distinguishing them from actual fake news.

Maybe I only saw the article post-correction but I don't recall them claiming as true the unfounded claims.
