And reported on the buzzfeed allegations, did not properly vet them to understand the phony context, and linked to buzzfeed, something none of the actual credible publications were willing to do and rebuked CNN for doing so.
Journalists have a responsibility to critically evaluate information for their audience and vet it before publishing, rather than dredging every baseless allegation and telling people to "decide for themselves" like a reptilian overlord conspiracy theorist
I didn't go to school for journalism, but I don't see why providing some more context is a bad thing. These allegations were circulating in Washington for months, something those of us outside the bubble aren't privy to. CNN made it abundantly clear what information was out there and what information they could not verify. The main point of their report was that Trump was presented information on possible blackmail material. Plus, intelligence sources have corroborated some aspects of the Russian dossier.

they talked about the 'russian dossier' bringing massive amounts of attention to it, but didn't "report" on it nor did they seek to verify anything.
The main point of their article was that Trump and Obama were briefed on the possible blackmail material. CNN shouldn't be blamed when idiots(much like yourself) don't critically evaluate a report and take it to mean something it never said.
