Why yes it is different than Buzzfeed's decision to publish the report, but that doesn't wash their hands of it or diminish their culpability. Someone doing something worse doesn't make them saints.
Other news organizations either declared buzzfeed's reporting irresponsible and dangerous, or declared the documents fake news, or both. CNN did exactly what trump accused them of, hyping up a fake news story. They did not present it in the context of being an example of fake news, like the CIA report had it, nor were they admonishing buzzfeed for its libel. They instead were lending the air of legitimacy to it, declaring the explosive allegations were backed up by intelligence agency officials and lent credibility by unnamed senior sources.
CNN tried to support the legitimacy of the fake story by using their article to list what reasons they had to think its real, while disclaiming they couldn't verify it. NBC went out to say it had obvious errors, that they checked with their sources who confirmed it was fake, labelled it as "disinformation" and spend over 2/3 of their page on trump and russia calling it a hoax.
If you can see the difference between what two fake news sites reported, maybe you can see the difference between what a fake news site and a real news site did
