As lab meat and plant-based substitutes get better factory farming will come more and more under attack. It's a gradual process.

IMO we should pose harsh penalties for factory farms and greatly subsidize better farming methods. Factory farming is a major concern for public health and honestly produces a garbage tier product anyway.

My concern is that Americans are lazy with their diets and if we eliminate meat they won't gravitate towards high-protein alternatives, but the same corn/starch based (vegetarian) crap that has made us a world leader in obesity.

Why would I? In your stomach meat is meat. Your body really doesn't care if what's in your stomach is a liver, an intestine, a muscle, and yes, a tumor. If we can transfect tumors to produce and maintain a ton of nutrition, replicate quickly, and taste good, why would anybody care? That would be an absolute boon to humanity.

There's far more public health issues than just the quality of the product. Factory farms are a breeding ground for antibiotic resistance, for example. There's a ton of problems.

Ideally we would phase out factory farms, stop subsidizing corn, subsidize healthy green and root vegetables, and bring most meat production into lab-based forms with only high-end beef being produced on ranches.
