Yes, theres probably some real stories to go negative about trump that will get washed out if this blows up. After all, russia undoubtably did put their thumbs on the scales in this election, probably more to discredit hillary than help trump. The left tried to make a narrative out of this while ignoring the actual malfeasance exposed and saudi/arab/etc money going to hillary thats just as big or worse, but any legitimate stories are just going to get pissed on

The national media is all over a story about russian having some kind of leverage on trump, some dirt they could have used on him that they chose not to. This report is apparently leaked from the CIA
Buzzfeed went further and published documents it says is the basis for this, in an article saying trump was honeypotted into sleeping with prostitutes and having perverted golden showers and other urine sex acts on beds obama had slept in;
This report is apparently the basis for the rick wilson / mcmillan / mccain / possible-cia-leak
Within hours, its emerging that the report is an apparent hoax, made by a shitposter on /pol/ who sent it to rick wilson and tried to get other journalists to bite. The plot points like russian spies having sex with a target and hidden cameras is lifted almost wholesale from a story he says he saw on reddit, a slate article detailing a similar incident with the president of indonesia. Theres a chain of ID and timestamp proven comments in the archives from back just before wilson claimed he had some secret new evidence, claiming to have passed him the hoax story. Other journalists have said they were approached with it, and either discarded it as unbelievable or unverifiable. He hasn't posted conclusive proof yet, so the story that it is fake could itself be fake.

So worst case scenario, major media organizations and the bloody CIA itself and high profile politicians like mccain all just believed a total hoax about trump/russia while at the same time putting out stories about trump/russia and decrying 'fake news'
