You could balance the budget, even have a budget surplus if you raise taxes enough. You could also wipe out the debt if you raise taxes enough. If we get 2 out of 3 of those but do it by raising the taxes that would be the antithesis of fiscal conservatism. Lower taxes is and has been for awhile the backbone of economic conservatism in the US.
