That irony tho

its a cute joke but, it's a public safety issue if a spill happens it leaks directly into their reservoir. as compared to say a global warming protest that leaves trash.

also the "mess" can somewhat be attribute to them hastily getting ejected from the protest camps.

also afaik it's the paid clean up crews who are burning the camps, not the campers.

i mean it's a cute meme tho

Their water intake is being moved 70 miles downstream. They've been working on that project for the last 10 years. It is also deeper than their current water intake. Oil floats on water.

Did the clean up crews leave the cars behind too?

They knew the ejection was going to happen. Pretending it's not coming then defending them saying "Oh they just didn't have enough time" is bs.

The last activists at the Dakota Access Pipeline protest camp torched their tents and the entrance to the site Wednesday in the final hours leading up to an Army-ordered evacuation deadline — one last act of defiance to end the 10-month-long protest at Standing Rock.

So.. they knew for weeks they will get ejected. They had enough time to torch and trash a bunch of stuff but not enough time to pack up and leave the place as it was, you know... not trashed?

the water resevoir is something i'd need to read up on, if that's true i'm glad.

so to the cars and the mess i said "somewhat be attributed to". can we agree some people were evacuated without being allowed to clean up?

if that's true i see what you mean, i thought your comment was referencing a burnt camp i saw a few days ago that was done by clean up crews.

as to the "they knew" i mean sure, they've been told for months they're going to get kicked out any day.

The tribe and the Corps of Engineers have been working on moving the intake (and making it deeper) because there was a drought year a while back that had the river so low they couldn't draw into their reservoir. The tribe was very much aware of this because they were involved in the process the whole time. It was quite dishonest of them to use the "threat to their water supply" as a wedge because they knew full well that it was going to be fine, the project will be completed well in advance of the drilling the path for the pipe.

I find it difficult to believe that people wouldn't be allowed to claim their car.

i thought your car comment was in reference to the pictures of a burned and/or spray paint graffiti car i saw in several pictures of the campsites.

hmmm this site did provide a few surprising facts on the matter:

https://daplpipelinefacts.com/

the one i'm most interested to verify is the archaeological disturbances that were reported and iirc photographed.
