clearing/burning the protest camp in North Dakota. Most protesters have been removed yesterday, as the ultimatum has ended.

They'll have to drink oil under the Trump administration.

About natives i have no idea of the real harm done... by those pipeline(s)

The river is used for irrigation of farmland fishing and drinking. I'm not sure about the total effect either.
I'm expecting that with small accepted leaks, the contamination will not be high enough to make ppl sick directly.
However, ppl will consume the oil running through the pipe. Waiting for the big leak to happen.

Lots of sad imagery out of this and it's sad overall to see the protests seemingly not accomplish anything. Still the local authorities are handling the actual protesters n surprisingly good fashion. Many have been processed and received paid bus tickets back home. The transition away from protests seems to be rather peaceful as well which is good considering the pipeline is basically moving forward as is from what i've read.

I think one of the major factors at play is Native American sovereignty being shit on. This just another example in a long history of broken treaties against the Natives and their rights to control what happens on their reservations.

Construction of a pipeline is actually going to be safer than transporting oil by truck or train. However, the reservation in question named their price for building the pipeline on their land and the federal government has basically said "lol no fuck you we'll pay you what we want."

This of course has the Natives living their upset because their people were forced onto that reservation with its shitty land and shitty water. They want adequate compensation and respect over their sovereignty to at least control what happens if they're going to live there.

For decades, reservation land mass has been shrinking as the tribes lose their rights. The pipeline is just another chapter in being fucked over.
