On Feb 19th 2022 Zelensky said Ukraine would put into question the decision to relinquish its nuclear arsenal. 5 days later Russia invaded.
to put that another way - If Cuba, Mexico or Canada said today that they would pursue Nuclear Weapons, how do you think the US would respond tomorrow?
If you want historical context - Cuba, Ukraine.

Cuba was a proxy to Russian nuclear missiles. The commies were considered a real enemy at a time. Not the same thing. United States had a legitimate concern

Ukraine already possessed nuclear weapons and power plants, it had absolutely no intention of invading or starting any beef with anyone, it wanted to be left the fuck alone and seperate itself from communists, along with a bunch of other communist block countries. Its not an Iraq, Iran or North korea who are genuine oppressive regimes. Russia is a nasty bully who just wants them to lay down their arms so that they can make the invasion easier. I am not buying the excuse to protect its defense interests.

They were tricked they gave up their "guns" so to speak and now they are at a mercy of a bigger bully who clearly an agressor. History is repeating itself. Lesson learned do not give up your guns better to have them and not need them than to need them and not have them.

1. The US did not break the deal they made with Ukraine on nuclear disarmament, which is what we are talking about.

Ukraine negotiators were drunk when they made that deal. Should of made a binding contract that guarantees military protection for laying down its arms. That has to be one of the worst deals to make. Imagine you having worlds 3rd largest nuclear arsenal and just just give them up. They didnt even sell them just dismantled everything and put trust in others not to screw them over.

Ukraine actually was paid for turning over their weapons, as part of a side deal they negotiated secretly because Kazakhstan and Belarus were not paid.

Your comment on Cuba is wrong also. Russia was the threat at the time, which is why they were doing it, but the result would have been the same if someone else tried the same thing. If France moved weapons into Cuba it would be interpreted as an act of war against the United States too. It doesn't matter who does it, if anyone tries to move into the western hemisphere America has a policy of considering that a direct threat. This same policy secured Canada's ability to help Britain during WW1 with no fear of domestic attacks even before America entered the war. An attack on Canada would have been considered an attack on America even before NATO, even a legitimate attack during a world war wherein Canada was a belligerent aiding in attacks on other countries. It doesn't matter, they're not allowed to bring any of their European bullshit over here.

Russia wishes they could enforce a similar policy, their only chance is on a much smaller scale(Ukraine). NATO was moving weapons into Ukraine whose only purpose was to kill Russians, they interpreted that as a threat because it was a threat.

The part you conveniently didn't mention is that Ukraine's nuclear arsenal was aimed at Western cities. They were part of the USSR, they were the commies

Just saying

Russia had control over the arsenal and we must all be thankful that they took it so serious.

Doesn't change the fact that Ukraine was a core part of the USSR.

here is a great idea - the US breaks Russia up into 17 little countries, each with Nuclear weapons, immediately doubling the number of countries with nuclear weapons, all bearing a grudge against the US. what could possibly go wrong.

Well-deserved and life-preserving.

The US did not design a missile detection system that could mistake birds for nuclear weapons, Russia did that and their stupidity is the closest the world has ever come to total destruction.

Exactly, this is what I meant when I said we must be thankful they took it so serious. No nukes fell into the hands of terrorists in the Kaukasus or Ukrainian banderites.
