Wife told me that GE is going to quit contracting its engineers and IT staff and hire people as actual staff. Now the model is that they get the contract themselves for a project, they hire groups of engineers to make an engine and get it to production for whatever batch of planes or w/e they're supplying for, and then when the engine is done the contracts are over and the people don't have jobs. It has been pretty brutal and LEAN has only kept essential employees. But they are stopping that and hiring staff, under the philosophy of going from 'outsourcing to insourcing', their language.

Ive heard similar things.
When you reward people for helping society and destroy the people that hurt society, everything falls into place. Its all about the feedback loops.
