The beginning comes off to me as "He knew exactly what happened". Then is immediately followed with "We can't know how much he knew about what happened and just wanted to believe his kid". I think its just the wording used though and I'm reading it wrong.

Gotcha. I'd be willing to believe that scenario. After seeing how it basically took up until my brother died from my parents to admit he had any real drug/brain problems other than being a typical fuck up. Boomer parents refuse to believe their kids can do wrong. Always seem to think God will fix them or something.

The most amazing thing about it: Biden would be the first president from the Silent Generation. JFK, Nixon, Carter, Reagan and H.W. Bush were all from the Greatest Generation, then we went straight to a boomer in Clinton, followed by another three boomers in W. Bush, Obama and Trump. And now, in 20 fucking 20, we might be going back to someone from the Silent Generation.
