Hospitals are in no way prepared for this

Still can’t test anyone here (Des Moines). We had some tests we finally received on Saturday, first time we were able to test. Several hundred tests sent out on Saturday to go to lab with supposed 24 hour turn around time. The lab we contracted with closed on Sunday. All the tests we went, the solvent in them is not viable after sitting for extended period of times. All the tests returned today not viable.

+ every hospital system doing things differently, no coordinated effort. In Detroit they are quarantining providers with exposure for 14 days ... best intensivist , INfectious disease doc, and best nurse practitioner (icu nurse practitioner) all mandatory quarantined by the hospital for 14 days (at the specific hospital I trained at). Guarantee they won’t do the whole 14 days, but it’s still messed up some people think that’s a viable solution. Every elective case here in dsm has been canceled, in process of transitioning outpatient clinics to urgent care style triage centers.

Idk what public perception is on this cuZ I have forced bias, but confidence is very very very low amongst medical community. First time docs and hospital admin actually are on the same page for a change trying to find solutions.

Hard to know anything tbh cuz we just have no tests since cdc outlawed state labs from conducting their own tests

no, i understand overpopulation is a problem. youre just employing a false idea that it's even halfway realistic to expect people to stop breeding, especially in the third world. where they have historically had high mortality in pregnancy and the life expectancy is/was younger than you are now.

see i live on earth, not behind a computer with a pack of marbs and a burning anger at the life i didnt live. im interested in realistic fixes to the world, not rewriting history and human behavior. people arent going to stop overbreeding, its as human as jealousy, anger, etc. its what we do to fix it that matters, and typing out "stop having kids" behind a monitor on PARD isnt going to fix anything. maybe birth control, spending billions on education, improving mortality rates and general health, and increasing access to clean water would. but if i showed you the bill you'd say "fix it yourselves you lazy 3rd world slobs", after fixing nothing your whole life and becoming a shell of a man you once were that needs to post 5 times a day about your service to remind you of what u could have been, instead of what you are. you cant stop smoking cigs, not because of the nicotine, because u want an easy way out but are too cowardly to do anything about it.
