the point seems moot.
not a moot point at all. calling it stupid or moot doesnt actually make it so.
clarifying that he isnt an expert and exposing him as a hack and a fraud is quite relevant to current events.

people on your side of the argument also like to act like he has no leg to stand on.
often he doesn't. as we saw in the AMA or any number of his videos he often tells outright falsehoods or is clueless and dishonest while pushing his leftist agenda.
Quote
#1 he presents other's work transparently as not his own.
'transparently'
presenting someone elses work doesn't make him an expert, as we were saying.
Quote
#2 he has a pile of degrees in a highly related field.
bullshit. he has a BS in engineering and he has honorary degrees.
Quote
#3 his work has pressed him into high level scientific circles.
His work as a leftist hack and children's entertainer have gotten him onto political commentary shows and debates, not his supposed top level 'science' or knowledge.
Quote
The truth is "is he a scientist" is white noise, just call out his hacky made for cash Netflix show as the joke that it is. Don't waste time posting 25 year old videos where he contradicted his modern work, if anything changing in light of new evidence is highly scientific. And anyways, there are perhaps millions of people with bachelor's levels of science degrees who are by their knowledge less scientists than Nye. He's got parts in spaceships and satellites buzzing about the solar system.
wow good for him. he worked on a sundial 40 years ago before becoming a children's TV show character.
Quote
If you have the goal of not wanting people to listen to Nye in modern times, as I do, you should focus on the methodological mistakes his TV show employs. discounting his lifetime of work is silly, showing how far he's fallen isn't. Nye has at his disposal the best scientists the world has to offer, one phone call and they could co-author an episode in a heartbeat. Instead he chose to pull the dregs of the social science barrel to the surface to make a deeply partisan for profit tv show that's not scientific.
criticizing his current 'work' as a political hack and moron is what i've been doing.
his 'lifetime of work' is a joke. criticizing and identifying both are not mutually exclusive.
nor does your fallacious and over inflated opinion of his career actually mean he was great.
making an ass out of himself on his sex junk show is stupid and all, but ultimately its not as important to me as his political hackery
appeals from false authority.
Quote
Why does this all matter? because both scientists and non-scientists can create tv shows with scientific flaws. but most people don't care if he is a scientist or isnt, because of the reason i posted, he can draw upon the world of science in a heartbeat. many people watching the show assume this, and so by attacking Nye directly you don't get through to these people nor shed light on methodological flaws that other "scientists" use.
"he's not even a scientist" is low fruit once you've tried and failed to make a good intellectual argument. "scientist" is semantics with a light academic backing, and moot.
identifying him as a non-scientist is one of many steps in discrediting him and getting people to see the truth.
many do see him as an authority figure when hes not.
you have again painted an insulting false dichotomy to fallaciously undermine anti-leftism.
if anyone actually read the article instead of taking scaly's disingenuous portrayal of it, it goes well beyond just pointing out that hes not a scientist and talking about gender.
