That's part of BMR.

I have no idea what you're trying to say.

Metabolism is relativistic to age. That is all. Something that works now won't later. What doesn't work now might later. That is all. I'm not trying to contradict anybody's statements here.

I just did a little calculator thing about this, age, weight, and height. How can they know this without knowing my build though? All my weight is in my shoulders and chest.

That's true. The amount I need will almost certainly lower as parts of my body break down with age.

Nevertheless, eating at a caloric excess will still cause me to gain weight regardless of my age. Calculating my BMR and eating at a higher rate will certainly work later.

Dude, just being able to wake up and move freely and with strength, and have my mind sharp and active, I feel so privileged. I'm approaching 40 now. If I have another 20 years I'll be happy with that.

Sometimes I am thankful. Not very often though.

I'm working on it right now by thinking about things to be grateful for.

The amount of weight I gained was pretty much exactly what I expected based on the amount of calories I counted. I calculated how much I ate on average than raised it to +500 kcal that per day and I'd gain about 1lb a week over time.

This anecdote does make it seem like your metabolism didn't put much in your way.

The truth is that not everybody would have the same result from the same efforts. Not even nearly.

The truth is that they would, approximately.

@howtodisappearcompletely, read this by the Mayo Clinic. I hope they're authoritative enough that you'll believe them.

In other words, different people's metabolisms, i.e. the base amount they need to consume to subsist varies from person to person, usually by a few hundred calories per day. It depends on different things like height, sex, and various genetic factors. But if you eat more than than (and don't exercise), you gain weight because you are taking in more energy than the amount your body needs to function.

You're still not acknowledging the variable factors that influence metabolism, but yes, you are on the right track.
