is her assertion of lack of hope due to President Obama leaving the White House? or is it rooted in some other event? is it because 8 years of hope and change yielded no hope? i'm genuinely interested in what the First Lady is getting at here.

She is speaking on behalf of much of the country who feel hopeless of a Trump presidency and explaining how she can try to give them hope by having hope herself. She did not say there is no hope in a Trump presidency.

The First Lady Michelle Obama says that there is no hope, and President-elect Trump was just elected.
so my assertion is imagine if we go back 8 years, and former First Lady Laura Bush goes on Oprah or some other show and says that we have no hope on say, December 16, 2008, right as President Obama was just elected.

Nobody knows what he will do when he takes office though. He might start to treat the other half with respect and human dignity once he is sworn in as their president. I hope he realizes that it is his job to promote the general welfare of fags, niggers, and immigrants too and not just the 1% he has only cared about thus far.

I think he will be worse than Bush but we will see.
