And your conclusion is that this -- and analogously the inverse -- works this way for everyone because it works this way for you?

No, I'm simply responding to this part of your post:

"In fact I'm inclined to believe that you, in your attempts to influence your weight, found that your own personal metabolism is difficult to influence externally, and you concluded that this must be the case for everybody."

I did not find that my own personal metabolism was difficult to influence externally; I found the opposite.

Did you ever find that your metabolism was hampering your progress, leading to weight gains that were below or above expectations after you started eating more?

If so, did this ever happen due to reasons you could not control?

My metabolism is weird that's for sure. I usually eat one large meal late afternoon, a snack before bed. Heavy cream in my coffee in the morning counts as breakfast.

Yesterday I had coffee in thr morning, Dolsit bibimbap bowl for lunch, and ate some peanut butter crackers before bed.

My weight fluctuates somewhat.

The amount of weight I gained was pretty much exactly what I expected based on the amount of calories I counted. I calculated how much I ate on average than raised it to +500 kcal that per day and I'd gain about 1lb a week over time.

That will change as you age.

My BMR will change as I age, which I would recalculate.

Just metabolism in general. As organs age they just don't work as good as they used to.

Same goes for therapeutic doses of medicine...the older you get the less medicine works...for similar reasons.

Hah, the classic "if it's easy for me it's easy for everyone" fallacy. You immediately lose all credibility with that, even though you thought you'd gain credibility from mentioning your past obesity. :)

I said "its not that hard" considering there are mobile applications that scan product bar codes and track nutritional information (inputs) and wrist watches that track steps and heart rate (output). If you have these two types of metrics, you can begin to make informed decisions to manage a specific situation. You twist my words and call them fallacies, then ad hom attack me :P. Years ago I would have agreed it can be a bit challenging to manually track calories, nutrients, steps, heart rate, but thanks to technology these are pretty damn easy. Are those points not credible?

That's part of BMR.

I have no idea what you're trying to say.

@howtodisappearcompletely, read this by the Mayo Clinic. I hope they're authoritative enough that you'll believe them.

Although your metabolism influences your body's basic energy needs, it's your food and beverage intake and your physical activity that ultimately determine how much you weigh.

In other words, different people's metabolisms, i.e. the base amount they need to consume to subsist varies from person to person, usually by a few hundred calories per day. It depends on different things like height, sex, and various genetic factors. But if you eat more than than (and don't exercise), you gain weight because you are taking in more energy than the amount your body needs to function.
