They deserved it / had it coming for terrorizing Palestinians years on end before they were even conceived
Seriously though (and as in the Ukraine thread), the distinction between unprovoked and unjustified cannot be stressed enough. Understanding the grievances of the parties involved is perhaps the first step at creating a real solution.
What led Hamas to cultivate this state of terror in the people that follow?
It’s a lot of layers but yea it’s shocking how people overlook the countless atrocities committed against the Palestinians, yet a thousand people in Israel is the worst thing since the holocaust. I wonder how we should rate the mistreatment of the Palestinians?
In the end, it’s easy to become a terrorist if everyone you love has been killed by your oppressors and you have no power to actively change things…. Except by becoming a terrorist.
Beyond that, Israel is basically the United States’ bitch in the Middle East. Notice how political leaders here are all championing Israel even tho they have committed crimes against humanity. Although I will remind everyone that Biden does want a two state solution. He is right that such violent acts can never be justified, yet in this situation it is our duty to analyze WHY this kind of attack happened in the first place.
However, when considering a two state solution, you have to realize that the current Israeli government refuses to negotiate humanely. The leaders there would accept a two state “solution” where the Palestinians have no military, would be dependent on Israeli infrastructure, and the Israelis would refuse to acknowledge the right of return or a system that compensates the Palestinians for having been evicted from their homes.
All in all though, when I really sit down and think about it, the United States is hugely at fault here. We should not have given them so much money and so many guns. We should have done that after they finalized a peaceful and amicable resolution and only if shit was hitting the fan. But we wanted them to be our puppy dog in that part of the world and spy for us. So we’re here now, the answer is not murdering and kidnapping Israeli innocents and then responding by bombing Gaza to oblivion. The answer is a two state solution

In this thread: Communists sympathizing with and excusing the most barbaric terrorists & acts of horror not seen since the Rape of Nanking
Work camps for the far left will now have bipartisan support
Hyperbole is popular amongst the kids these days isn’t it? Nanking was much much worse. And you saying this is the worst thing to happen since then proves just how little you know. You just devalued all the people murdered and raped in ukraine, Somalia, Rwanda, North Korea, Brazil…. The list goes on and on and on and on.
This attack by Hamas was barbaric. But the response is not more barbarism like bombing the shit out of gaza. The answer is right of return and a two state solution. If you don’t want those things, consider that you may be part of the problem.
