- Covid deaths vs freedom was a tradoff that most parts of Trump's base were happy to make. If anything, they've criticized Trump for not having resisted the lockdowns earlier, for having given power to Fauci, Birx et al. It's a weak spot for Trump, the main line of attack that DeSantis has on him.

- Trump's base was fully on board with trade wars. America at-large has come around to Trump's hawkish perspective on China in recent years, even Democrats are now in full "fuck the CCP"-mode.

- They don't give any fuck about America's reputation in the world. A less internventionist foreign policy/stopping to play the world's police was one of Trump's main selling points against the old GOP establishment.

- Worker's rights always poll well in the abstract. Most lefty causes do. These poll results have been out of step with the actual voting behavior of GOP voters for literally decades.

you conveniently "forgot" about the tax breaks for millionaires and corporations in your little pretzel exercise, you know, his major policy achievement. haven't found the proper spin for that yet? what does tucker say?

I have no idea if Tim Scott plays well with white trash voters but why does that matter? You can shuffle the coalitions around a bit and perhaps Scott would do better in the city centers, suburban folk, etc.

Candidates can only do so much to stem the tide of macro-trends. For literally decades (I think going back to at least the 60s), and all across the industrialized world, working-class voters have been trending toward right-wing parties while college-educated voters have been trending toward liberal or lefty parties. This trend existed long before Trump, he simply supercharged it whereas Romney, four years earlier, had slowed it down a little bit.

However, the Romney coalition had a 1.5% disadvantage in the EC (difference between the margin in the popular vote and the tipping point state) while the Trump coalition in 2020 had a 3.8% edge in spite of very similar topline numbers. (51.1% vs 47.2% in 2012; 51.3% vs 46.9% in 2020). So despite treading water in terms of the popular vote, the reshuffling of the coalitions has brought Republicans a whooping 5.1% closer to winning the presidency.

Everything on the warrant was retrieved as far I know. Remember, in order for the judge to sign off, they needed to have strong evidence that the documents would be there (there are rumors that there is a Trump informant and/or a secret service agent who told the FBI of these docs).

Okay, so it's like I thought: we don't really know yet which documents were actually retrieved by the FBI. I guess we'll find out in the coming days.

- america experiences a similar economic downturn due to the pandemic as the rest of the world, yet trump politicising the pandemic lead to tens of thousands of unnecessary deaths in america alone, not even through "freedom" but simply through science-denial and vaccination hesitancy, kellyanne.

- there's opposing china economically (something i am fully on board with btw) in a smart and coordinated way, and then there's randomly imposing tariffs, stupidly damaging your own economy with pointless policies, because you don't understand what trade balances are. trump did not do the former.

- the reputation loss was NOT due to "less interventionist" foreign policy (which was always just an empty promise, in reality he didn't even bring the troops he withdrew from the kurds home, most of them were re-deployed somewhere else in the middle east), he actually manoeuvred america to the brink of military conflict with iran out of spite for his predecessor, and broadly supported the genocide saudi-arabia is committing in yemen. the loss of reputation came due to unilaterally breaking carefully negotiated agreements, cozying up to dictators, and attacking allies. you're deluding yourself pretending it was anti-interventionism, lol.

- so because the GOP has been undermining them for decades that somehow means trump doing so is NOT something he does against the interest of his base? weird "logic".

you're trying to make my point for me about dishonestly downplaying literally every single failure of his, no matter how obvious, aren't you? it's textbook really. xD

We know their classification level but we won't ever know the contents outside of general leaks i.e. "nuclear weapons." At this point, it doesn't matter IMO. He shouldn't have had them at all since he's no longer President.

Sure, he shouldn't have had them, but if the raid was based on charges like "violation of the Espionage Act", it does matter which documents they actually found at MAL.

Man trump stole top secret documents. End of story.

Lets see if anything serious will happen to him.

You must be braindead to take top secret documents from whitehouse and not return them when requested.

Trump thinks he is above the law.
