- Covid deaths vs freedom was a tradoff that most parts of Trump's base were happy to make. If anything, they've criticized Trump for not having resisted the lockdowns earlier, for having given power to Fauci, Birx et al. It's a weak spot for Trump, the main line of attack that DeSantis has on him.
- Trump's base was fully on board with trade wars. America at-large has come around to Trump's hawkish perspective on China in recent years, even Democrats are now in full "fuck the CCP"-mode.
- They don't give any fuck about America's reputation in the world. A less internventionist foreign policy/stopping to play the world's police was one of Trump's main selling points against the old GOP establishment.
- Worker's rights always poll well in the abstract. Most lefty causes do. These poll results have been out of step with the actual voting behavior of GOP voters for literally decades.
- america experiences a similar economic downturn due to the pandemic as the rest of the world, yet trump politicising the pandemic lead to tens of thousands of unnecessary deaths in america alone, not even through "freedom" but simply through science-denial and vaccination hesitancy, kellyanne.
- there's opposing china economically (something i am fully on board with btw) in a smart and coordinated way, and then there's randomly imposing tariffs, stupidly damaging your own economy with pointless policies, because you don't understand what trade balances are. trump did not do the former.
- the reputation loss was NOT due to "less interventionist" foreign policy (which was always just an empty promise, in reality he didn't even bring the troops he withdrew from the kurds home, most of them were re-deployed somewhere else in the middle east), he actually manoeuvred america to the brink of military conflict with iran out of spite for his predecessor, and broadly supported the genocide saudi-arabia is committing in yemen. the loss of reputation came due to unilaterally breaking carefully negotiated agreements, cozying up to dictators, and attacking allies. you're deluding yourself pretending it was anti-interventionism, lol.
- so because the GOP has been undermining them for decades that somehow means trump doing so is NOT something he does against the interest of his base? weird "logic".
you're trying to make my point for me about dishonestly downplaying literally every single failure of his, no matter how obvious, aren't you? it's textbook really. xD
